Heavy metal’s high priests Powerwolf return with the cinematic video to latest single Dance With The Dead. Howling with all the bestial bombast fans have come to expect of the band over the past 17 years, the single is the second song to be released from Powerwolf’s upcoming eighth record Call Of The Wild after they made their thunderous return in May with lead single Beast Of Gévaudan.
Bolstered by a sense of panache and theatricality matched only by the likes of Ghost and Iron Maiden, Powerwolf have spent almost two decades clawing their way into the upper echelons of European heavy metal thanks to an almighty arsenal of bona fide anthems like We Drink Your Blood, Army of the Night and Demons Are A Girls Best Friend. On July 16th, Call Of The Wild is set to expand this cache even further thanks to the band’s trademark combination of crowd-conquering choruses and thundering riffs that draw a lineage in everyone from Sabaton to NWOBHM legends Saxon.
2018’s The Sacrament of Sin achieved chart-topping success back home in Germany and multiple other countries around Europe, setting the stage for a conquest that saw the band bring their stunning live show to fans in their tens of thousands in fields and venues across Europe and the UK. The band even crossed continents to play their first ever shows in Latin America with fellow European heavy metal champions Amon Amarth. COVID-19 may have curtailed the last of these shows, but the band’s ambitions for global dominion have been forged anew with the announcement of a new European tour in October 2021, including a very special show at the legendary London venue The Roundhouse on October 8th.
With scenes from the band’s Nightside of Siberia end of tour video still burned into our minds (remember crowds? Remember chants? Remember flaming pianos?! - admittedly that last may be Powerwolf-specific), you can be sure this is one event heavy metal purists won’t want to miss. Not only is it the band’s only UK show of 2021, but it is also the band’s biggest production in the UK to date bringing the full glory of the band’s live set-up to life in a manner most befitting the heavy metal hierophants.
To celebrate their return – and what is sure to be the heavy metal hit of the summer – Powerwolf have teamed up with e-commerce giants EMP to produce some spectacular exclusive Call Of The Wild merchandise and boxsets. These very special exclusives are limited edition creamy white Call Of The Wild LPs and copies of the new album and bonus release Missa Cantorem on cassette.
Befitting a partnership between one of Europe’s most important contemporary heavy metal bands and the leading e-commerce company in rock, entertainment and gaming, details have also been unveiled for an enormously extensive Powerwolf boxset. This collection includes a 100-page 12" hardcover book, as well as a copy of the album on coloured red-marbled triple vinyl and 5 signed autograph cards. Limited to just 1500 copies, you can bet these will sell out quickly.
The band have also unveiled plans for a full bonus disk of content to accompany Call Of The Wild. Missa Cantorem sees Powerwolf pull in a star-studded cast of guest musicians including Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Matthew Kiichi Heafy (Trivium) and Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth) to cover their biggest hits to date.
With so much content on the horizon and a much-anticipated return to the live arena, 2021 is shaping up to be the year of the (Power)wolf, zodiac be damned.
