Brum upstarts cause a Black Country commotion.

The four guys from Broken Witt Rebels might look like a bunch of hipsters who have just staggered out of the nearest craft beer pub, but don’t hold that against them. The group’s latest five-track EP kicks off, all guns blazing, with the raucous Low, which is guaranteed to grab you by the scruff of the neck and leave you wanting more.

Singer Danny Core has an authority way beyond his years, belting out the tunes with real passion. There are some nods to classic southern rock, particularly on Getaway Man, but the band have managed to come up with their own signature sound.

Like Alabama Shakes before them, this Birmingham group is in danger of making the blues cool again. Whether they can keep this sort of quality up for a whole album remains to be seen, but we could be in for quite a ride if they do.
